Irish eyes are smiling

CEO of Smiles Dental Emmet O’Neil sells his chain to Oasis for £30m which includes the poor old ‘many times sold’ James Hull chain. The deal provides Oasis with the dominant position in the Republic of Ireland with 17 sites and 60 additional sites in the UK (formerly James Hull). The acquisition gives the extended Oasis group three million patients. Oasis is a major brand in the developing but fragmented and ‘pre-retail’ UK and Irish dental markets. It is owned by private equity firm Bridgepoint which owns Pret A Manger, and Bridgepoint’s dental division is chaired by Stuart Rose, the very talented retailer of Marks & Spencer fame. I guess the question all us marketeers are keen to understand is how Oasis will go forward in terms of branding and retail execution – I would imagine that Mr Rose has a very clear and clever plan.
