EVENT: 2011 Breathe Leadership Retreat

 

21st to 24th November 2011 at Trelowarren, Cornwall

Arriving at Trelowarren after another hectic week in Practice, I had no great expectations of what the week would hold.  Bur from the first hour on Monday morning my wife and I have been seeing things more clearly and getting huge benefit from the opportunity to look at things differently.  Getting off the Practice treadmill for a week is just so valuable and with the help of Martin and Hutch we can’t wait to get back home and lead our team forward, onward and upwards.

It is common to think that leaders are born to it, that they have some secret element that makes them great. Whilst this is true of some remarkable leaders, it is not true in every case. What I have gained from this leadership retreat is confidence in myself to be able to lead well and skills and toolkits to help me achieve it. I have found the whole experience brilliant and recommend all dental business owners to give themselves permission to take the week off to come and do the retreat. It’s invaluable and you won’t ever regret that you took that leap of faith.

So much of Practice life is teamwork yet being a leader can be a lonely place not really understood or accomplished well. Taking time in a totally different place, to be part of a team being led and exploring leadership personally is a fantastic experience. It’s true to say that we weren’t sure what to expect from the ‘Leadership Retreat’. However, we did know that we had got certain things right and other things very wrong when it came to leading our team. Martin and Mike (Hutch) took us on an intrepid journey into our minds. Over the four days we both had a hugely fascinating and enjoyable insight into the way we behave and communicate can influence those around us (in ways good and bad! We came away feeling like Superheroes, with tools and ’special’ techniques to lead ourselves and our team in good ways!!
