Dr Simon Hocken

Simon specialises in supporting principals and their management team in making change happen. He is recognised for his objectivity and great ability to listen, combined with his natural energy and enthusiasm. He works closely with clients on developing their vision for their practice and their life, and then turning this vision into a set of practical and measurable goals. He is skilled in helping clients set achievable actions that deliver results (such as increased profit, multiplying turnover and attracting more of the right clients). He is astute at spotting trends “ahead of the curve” and enjoys working with principals to develop their leadership skills.

As a former dentist and practice owner, Simon understands the challenges of running a practice. He has seen considerable change within the industry in his 20 years in practice and used his talent for innovation to set up 2 private, contemporary “boutique” practices, when these terms were unheard of. He achieved considerable success with his practices, having managed to borrow money and set up in the middle of a recession.

Simon has 10 years experience as a business coach, working with practices, small businesses and entrepreneurs. He is passionate about the future of dentistry. He speaks regularly at major dental forums, as well as writing for leading publications, and lecturing and writing for academic courses. In 2008, he was voted “the 11th most influential person in UK dentistry” by readers of Dentistry magazine.

The best coaches have the self-knowledge to apply their expertise and experience to themselves, and Simon is no exception. He chooses to live surrounded by beauty and his passions: by the water in Devon, with his partner and their 2-year old son. Simon has found an environment that provides inspiration and creativity to work and to follow his passions for sailing and photography.
